Islay Beaches

The best beaches anywhere! Some are sandy, some not; but all are enchanting and have a uniqueness that brings visitors back year after year ....

Ardnave Beach

One of Islay's sandy beaches with dunes. Head to the north west of the island and park at Ardnave Loch Ardnave Beach Picture

Big Strand

Seven miles long ... hence the name Big Strand. Its Islay's longest beach so there is little chance you wont be able to find a spot all to yourself. Big Strand Picture

Claggain Bay

A pebbly beach with some amazing stones. There is even a wee sandy bit in case you fancy a change from the brightly coloured rocks and seabirds. Claggain Bay Picture

Kilchoman Beach

Islay's Machir Bay is a mile long and provides a splendid opportunity to sit and watch the surf. Oh and you are only a short step away from Kilchoman Distillery. Kilchoman Beach Picture

Killinallan Beach

A forty minute walk from the road takes you down to a completely unspoiled part of Islay. Wildlife abounds and the views are spectacular. Its adjacent to the RSPB reserve so you should see lots of interesting birds (and few people). Killinallan Beach Picture

Lossit Beach

At the end of the Octofad road head off across the farmland (remembering the country code as there are sheep here and dogs are forbidden during lambing) towards the sea. After 30 minutes you will be rewarded with one of the best sandy beaches anywhere! Lossit Bay Picture

Saligo Bay

Saligo has several wee sandy coves and is fairly easy to get to from the road. A fabulous mix of roack and sand and ideal for photography. Saligo Bay Picture

Sanaigmore Beach

If scenery and a walk is what you want, come to Sanaigmore Bay. There is lots of wildlife, sandy beach, dunes, surf and rocks, even a natural arch. All just a few minutes walk from the car park at the Exmoor Monument. Sanaigmore Bay Picture
